3. Indications for Use.
Zoster, postherpetic neuralgia, genital herpes: primary infection, aggravation of chronic infection, for prevention of attacks.
4. Action
Famvir is an anti-virus drug. Active against viruses of human herpes. Decrease frankness and durability of post-herpetic neuralgia in patients with zoster.
5. Posology and Administration
A recommended dose is 1,5 mg/24 hours 500 mg each 3 times a day. It is recommended to decrease a dose in patients with compromise of kidneys functions. If the function of kidneys in patients of advanced age is not upset the dosage should not be changed.
A recommended course of treatment is: 3-5 weeks depending on the form of the course of disease.
6. Counterindications
– hypersensibility to Famiciclovir or to any of the components of the drug;
– hypersensitivity to Penciclovir.
7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
Special attention should be taken to the patient with compromised function of kidneys, for whom a dose of Famvir should be corrected.
There is no need for special precautions for elderly patients or for those with compromised function of liver.
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease. The risk of contamination increases during backsets. If there are clinical manifestations of the disease if in case of the beginning of anti-virus treatment patients should avoid sexual contacts.
It is not recommended to use the drug for the treatment of children, as nowadays there are no enough data regarding its safety and efficiency.
