4. Action

The use of Fenofibrate decreases the level of general cholesterin. The drug gives diuretic effect.

5. Posology and Administration

Fenofibrate is to be administered orally in adults 0,1 g each (100 mg) 2 times a day before or during meal: 0,02 g (2 capsules) during breakfast, 0,01 g (1 capsule) during dinner.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity. Compromised liver function, including biliary cirrhosis, calculous cholecystitis, severe renal failure, alcoholism, pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Fenofibrate should be used in diabetes patients with caution, in order to avoid hypoglycemia (fall of sugar level in blood). During the treatment performance of liver function should be controlled, especially in contravention-prone patients.

Gastroenteric upsets are possible (nausea, vomiting), skin rash, hives, pains in muscles, muscle weakness (more frequently in legs); increase of the body mass due to water retention in the body. After withdrawal of Fenofibrate such events usually disappear.
In a long-term use of Fenofibrate intrahepatic cholestasis may develop (biliary engorgement), and cholesiasis may be aggravated. In Fenofibrate use there were registered formation of stones in gall bladder and biliary tracts.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

The use of Fenofibrate is counterindicated in pregnancy; during the treatment it is recommended to stop breastfeeding.
