Bacterial infections, provoked by sensitive microorganisms: diseases of breathing passages (bronchitis, pneumonia, abscess of lungs, empyema etc.), ENT-organs (sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharingitis, otitis, etc.), urinary tracts (pyelonephritis, cystitis, asymptomatic bacteriuria, gonorrhea, etc.), of the skin and soft tissues (rose, pyodermia, impetigo, furunculosis, phlegmon, wound infection, erysipeloid etc.), of bones and joints (osteomyelit, septic arthritis etc.), pelvic organs (endometritis, adnexitis, pervicitis, cervicitis), sepsis, meningitis, Lyme disease (borreliosis), prevention of infectious aggravations during the surgery of chest organs, abdominal cavity, pelvis, joints (including surgery of lungs, heart, alimentary canal, in vascular surgery when risk of infections aggravations is high, in orthopedic operations).

4. Action

Cefuroxime is an anti-bacterially active drug against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The drug is efficient in various infectious diseases, provoked by the stocks of microorganisms sensitive to Cefuroxime.

5. Posology and Administration

Posology and administration are to be set up individually with respect to severity of the process and localization of the infection, likewise with due consideration of sensitivity of the causative agent.
Orally: in adults 125–500 mg twice daily, when gonorrhea — 1 g single-shot; in children of more than 5 years of age 125–250 mg twice daily (in suspension up to1000 mg daily). The treatment course proceeds 5–10 days and more.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity. Neonatal period, prematurity, chronic renal failure, bleedings and intestinal tract diseases (including, in probability, nonspecific ulcerative colitis), in hyposthenic and emaciated patients, in pregnancy, lactation period.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

In long-term application it is recommended to control kidney function (especially if high doses are used) and pursue prevention of dysbacteriosis. In patients suffering from kidney dysfunction a dose should be lowered (it comes into account the evidence of renal failure and sensitivity of causative agent).

Symptoms: central excitatory state, convulsions.

10. Side Effects

Allergic reactions: cold fit, rash, itching, hives, bronchial spasm, appearance of malign skin rash, anaphylactic shock. On the part of genitourinary system: itching in crotch, vaginitis. On the part of central nervous system: convulsions. On the part of urinary system: renal dysfunction, acraturesis (overaccumulation of urine). On the part of alimentary system: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, spasms and pain in the stomach, ulceration of mucus coating of the mouth cavity, appearance of rash in the mouth cavity. On the part of sense organs: impairment of hearing. On the part of blood-forming organs: anemia.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not recommended to use Cefuroxime during pregnancy, it is well to stop breastfeeding during Cefuroxine therapy.
