- Indications for Use.
It is used in allergic diseases (acute and chronic hives, serum sickness, pollinoses, vasomotor rhinitis, contact dermatitis, neurodermitis, Quincke’s edema (in allergic reactions on drug therapy etc.), likewise in migraine (mainly due to anti-serotonin effect), in loss of appetite of various etiology (neurogenic anorexia, chronic diseases etc.).
Due to the fact that histamine and serotonin enhance the secrecy of pancreatin it is proposed to use Periactin in a complex therapy of chronic pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreatic gland).
- Action
The drug decreases the reaction of the body on histamine, prevents and soothes the course of allergic reactions. Decreases the penetrability of capillary tubes and prevents the progression of tissue edemas.
- Posology and Administration
It is indicated for oral use: adults 4 mg (1 tablet) 3 - 4 times a day, to children in lesser doses in accordance with the age. From 6 months to 2 years of age it is indicated with care - a 24 hours’ dose up to 0, 4 mg/kg (only in cases of extreme necessity) is taken; from 2 to 6 years of age – up to 6 mg a day (1/2 of a tablet 3 times a day); from 6 to 14 years of age – up to 12 mg daily (1 tablet 3 times a day). 24 hours’ doses must not exceed 32 mg in adults, that of in children of 2 - 6 years of age - 8 mg, 6 - 14 years of age - 12 mg.
During the drug therapy do not drink alcoholic beverages.
- Counterindications
Hyper sensibility, closed-angle glaucoma, benign hyperplasia of prostate gland, urine retention, pyloroduodenal blocking, stenosing peptic ulcer, aptitude to edemas, simultaneous use with inhibitors of monoamine oxidase, elderly patients, pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy (under 6 months).
- Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
The first intake is recommended in evening time, after meal.
It is administered with care to children and elderly people (hypersensitivity is possible), to patients with bronchial asthma in anamnesis, hyperthyrosis, high intraocular tension, arterial hypertension and other diseases of cardio-vascular system.
- Interface with Other Medications
Simultaneous use of Cyprohepartadine with other medications oppressing central nervous system requires constant monitoring of patients (under strict medical control); in case of necessity the drug therapy should be cancelled.
- Overdosing
In children – mydriasis, stiff pupil, hyperemia of face skin, hyperthermia (high temperature of body), excitement, unrest, hallucinations, decomposition of movement, athetosis (painful non-willed movements, especially of hands, face and tongue), convulsions, collapse (life threatening condition, characterized with blood tension drop and impairment of blood supply), coma.
In adults – arrest, depression, coma, or psychomotor agitation, convulsions; seldom – hyperthermia and hyperemia of skin integuments.
- Side Effects
Weakness, sedative effect and drowsiness, unrest, headache, dizziness, ataxia, vision hallucinations, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, in some cases increase of body mass, rash, Quincke’s edema (angioedema), hives, anaphylaxis (quick reaction to allergen), photosensitivity, hypotension (low arterial tension), tachycardia, hemolytic anemia (enhanced destruction of red blood cells and concentration of their breaking in blood), leucopenia (decrease of number of leucocytes in blood), agranulocytosis (absence or decrease of number of granulocytes in blood).
- Pregnancy and Lactation
The drug is counterindicated in pregnancy. In run of treatment breastfeeding should be stopped.
- Driving
Caution should be exercised in administration of the drug to people whose work is connected with intense physical and psychical activity.
