Disorders of peripheral blood circulation, Reynaud’s disease, disorders of tissue trophism (post-thrombotic syndrome, varicose veins, trophic ulcers of legs, gangrene, freezing injuries); strokes: ischemic conditions; cerebral atherosclerosis (dizziness, headache, memory impairment, sleep disorder), dycirculatory encephalopathy, virus neuroinfection (prevention of eventual disruption of microcirculation); ischemic heart disease, condition after myocardial infarction; acute disturbed circulation in retina and choroid; otoschlerosis, degenerative changes against pathology of vessels of inner ear with a gradual hearing loop; COPD, bronchial asthma; vascular genesis impotency.
Pentoxifylline takes vasodilatory action and improves oxygen supply of tissues.
Pentoxifylline is to be administered orally, intravenously and intra-arterially. Orally it should be taken starting from 0,2 g (2 pills) 3 times a day after meal without chewing. After a desired therapeutic outcome (usually in 1-2 weeks) a dose should be reduced to 0,1 g (1 tablet) 3 times a day. A course of treatment is 2-3 weeks and more.
Acute myocardial infarction, profuse bleeding, retinal hemorrhage. Relative contradictions may be: severe atherosclerotic impairment of vessels of brain and heart, pregnancy, lactation, severe disorders of heart rhythm (for intravenous introduction).
Liability to low arterial tension, chronic heart failure, diabetes, gastric and duodenal ulcer (for oral administration), state after recently had surgery, liver and/or kidney failure, age under 18 (efficiency and safety have not been investigated).
If parallel administration of other medications during Pentoxifylline therapy is needed consult your doctor for advice on the matter of the drug’s compatibility.
Symptoms: blush, significant fall of arterial tension, convulsions, fainting fit, “coffee-grounds” vomiting, fever. Overdosing signs usually appear in 4-5 hours after Pentoxifylline administration and are preserved during about 12 hours.
On the part of the digestive tract: nausea, vomiting, feeling of weight, diarrhea.
Pentoxifylline is counterindicated during pregnancy. During Pentoxifylline therapy breastfeeding should be stopped.
People whose activity requires alertness should take caution during Pentoxifylline therapy.
