3. Indications for Use.
Arterial hypertension (obstinate elevation of arterial tension);
Benign hyperplasia of prostate gland (adenoma) – symptomatic treatment.
Chronic heart failure (in the beginning).
4. Action
Provokes arteriolar and venial dilatation, decreases peripheral resistance and venous return to the heart, acts as hypotensive remedy. The duration of hypotensive effect is 24 hours. Favour the normalization of lipid exchange: decreases cholesterin, triglycerides, LDL and very low density liproproteins content in blood, increases the quantity of high density liproproteins. With systematic use there is noticed regression of hypertrophy of the left ventitricle.
Blocking alpha1-adrenoreceptors of smooth muscles of prostate gland and the neck of urinary bladder promotes normalization of urinating in patients with benign hypertrophy of prostate gland.
5. Posology and Administration
For prevention of «phenomenon of the first dose» (undue reduction of tension) the treatment should be started from a dose of 1 mg. before sleep, after that the patient should be in bed for 6-8 hours.
Arterial hypertension: the start from the least dose (1 mg), then it is increased up to 1-5 mg/a day in 1-2 intakes. Maximal 24 hours dose is - 20 mg. Supporting dose is from 1 to 10 mg once a day.
In case of a temporary stop of the drug intake the treatment will be renewed after the same regimen.
Adenoma of prostate gland: first 1-2 mg is taken, and then up to 5 mg (a clinical performance is obtained). The drug should be administered before sleep.
In cessation of therapy the dose must be reduced gradually (during several days).
Therapeutic performance is noticed after 2 weeks from the moment of the beginning of the treatment. To obtain an obstinate performance a course of 4-6 weeks treatment is needed.

To prevent the phenomenon of the first dose the treatment should be started from a minimal effective dose (1 mg/a day before sleep), after that the patient should be in bed for 6-8 hours. The risk of emergence of orthostatic hypotension (phenomenon of «the first dose") is the highest during 30-90 minutes after the drug intake and is elevated in patients who at the same time get beta-adrenergic blockers and diuretics alongside with reducing of the volume of liquid in the body, hyposalt diet, likewise with resume of the drug’s therapy after a break (several days). In case of temporary cessation of treatment the therapy should be renewed from the same dose. In the process of treatment concentration of specific antigen of prostate gland (PSA) is not changed. Before the beginning of the therapy of benign hyperplasia of prostate gland it is necessary to rule out cancer of prostate gland. Performance of the therapy of this disease is to be evaluated after 4-6 weeks of treatment by supporting doses. The patient should be informed of elevated risk of the development of orthostatic hypotension with using ethanol, long-lasting standing or doing physical exercises, also at hot weather.
8. Interface with Other Medications
The drug enhances activity of some medicines. At the same time the intake of some other medications may considerably decrease the performance of Terazosin or enhance its side effects. If you take some other medications you should inform your doctor.
9. Overdosing
Symptoms: tachycardia, hypotension, orthostatic collapse. Treatment: put the patient into horizontal state with a droop cap end of the bed, intravenous injection of liquid and hypertensive drugs.
10. Side Effects
Weakness, fatigue, sleepiness, anxiety, headache, dizziness, parenthesis, reduction of libido, disruption of vision, noise in ears, "first dose phenomenon" (acute decrease of AT up to orthostatic collapse, after the first intake), hypotension, tachycardia, arrhythmias, peripheral hydrops, cough, bronchitis, dry mouth, pharyngitis, nausea, vomiting, arthralgia, myalgia, reduction of indexes of hematocrit and hemoglobin, leucopenia, hypoalbuminemia, hypoproteinemia, flu-like syndrome, allergic reactions.
11. Pregnancy and Lactation
The drug is counterindicated to pregnant women, breast-feeding mothers and children.
12. Driving
During 12 hours after the first intake and after intensification or cessation of treatment it is not recommended to perform potentially hazardous work requiring increased attention and agility of psychomotor reactions.
