3. Indications for Use.

Ticlopidine is used for thrombosis prevention (formation of a blood clot in vessels), in ischemic cerebrovascular diseases (the diseases of brain vessels, which result in reduction of blood flow to the brain tissue), ischemic heart disease, after-myocardial infarction state, in the ischemic diseases of limbs coming from atherosclerotic changes in vessels, in event of retinopathy (noninflammatory retinal lesion) in sugar diabetes patients, for the prevention of thrombogenesis  (formation of a blood clot), after shunt procedures (restoration of blood flow in vessels through sewing-in artificial or proper vessels taken from other parts of the body) of blood vessels.
Also there have been received positive results while using Ticlopidine in patients with postthrombotic retinopathy (noninflammatory retinal lesion of the eye after blocking of its vessels).

4. Action

Ticlopidine increases the time of blood coagulability, and by that reduces the likelihood of becoming of thrombs.

5. Posology and Administration

Ticlopidine should be administered 250 mg each 1-2 times daily.
If needed the dose my be increased up to 1 g/daily. The therapy by such a dose should be done in a short course under control of bleeding time.

6. Counterindications

Diagnosted hypersensitivity to Ticlopidine. Hemorrhagic diathesis. Disorders coming from increased bleeding time. Hemorrhagic stroke, intracerebral bleeding. Gastric and/or duodenal ulcer in aggravation stage, varicose veins of alimentary canal, liver insufficiency. Blood formation disorder.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

In the first 3 months Ticlopidine treatment should be done under peripheral blood control.
Every patient who takes Ticlopidine should know that in event of fever, angina, ulcer lesions of mucus coating of the mouth it is necessary to notify the attending doctor.
On planned surgery (excluding the cases when Ticlopidine’s performance is advisable) it is necessary to stop the treatment one week before the surgery because of a possible and rather substantial risk of hemorrhagic aggravations.

8. Interface with Other Medications

9. Overdosing

Hemorrhagic syndrome, convulsions, body temperature less than 35 °С, pant, vestibular disorders.

Side effects: gastric-intestinal disorders (diarrhea, nausea, vomit, anorexia, pain in stomach, flatulence), less frequently – bleedings, anemia (isolated cases), dizziness, headache, buzzing in ears, asthenia, blood compositional disorder, yellow sickness, rash, itch.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It should not be administered during pregnancy. In the period of treatment breastfeeding should be stopped.
