3. Indications for Use.
Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and year-round), pollinosis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic hives, itching dermatoses (contact allergic dermatites, chronic eczema), allergic reactions on insect bites, pseudo-allergic reactions on histamine-liberators, angioneurotic edema, bronchial asthma (auxiliary).
4. Action
The drug prevents the progression of allergic reactions and soothes their course. It has anti-allergic, anti-itching, anti-exudative value. It decreases the penetrability of capillary tubes, prevents the progression of edema of tissues, and removes spasms of smooth muscles. Anti-allergic effect will develop in 30 мин, and it will reach the maximum in 8-12 hours and will last 24 hours. It does not affect central nervous system and does not have addicting property (as it does not penetrate through hematoencephalic barrier).
5. Posology and Administration
Orally, regardless of meal. To adults (including elderly people) and to children above 12 years of age 10 mg (1 tablet) or 10 ml (2 tea spoons) of sirop once a day.
To patients with dysfunction of liver or kidney failure a starting dose is recommended 10 mg (1 tablet) or 10 мл (2 tea spoons) of sirop every other day.
To children of 2–12 years of age a Claritine dose is recommended to administer in relation to a body mass:
- if a body mass is less than 30 kg - 5 mg (1/2 tablets) or 5 ml (1 tea spoon) of sirop once daily;
- if a body mass is 30 kg and more - 10 mg (1 tablet) or 10 ml (2 tea spoon) of sirop once daily.
Do not double up doses and do not take more than your doctor has administered to you.
6. Counterindications
Intolerance or hypersensitivity to the components included in the preparation formula, childhood (less than 2 years old), period of breastfeeding.
Exercise caution in period of pregnancy and in liver and kidney failure.
7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
To patients in diminished function of kidneys and liver it is recommended to take only 10 mg of the drug every other day, likewise it is recommended to use it with caution in various kinds of allergies, including on lactose; caution is needed in such diseases as glaucoma, kidney and liver, in pregnancy and breast feeding, prostate gland illness (in men).
8. Interface with Other Medications
In order to exclude the risk of occurrence of unfavorable interfaces in simultaneous use of Loratadine with other drugs do not attempt to cure yourself without the participation of your doctor.
9. Overdosing
Signs of overdosage: clumsiness, or instability in feet; dry mouth, nose, throat; flush; panting; attacks; hallucinations; interrupted sleep; severe drowsiness; faintness or delirious state; likewise unusual bleedings or bruises, tachycardia or arhythmia, pharyngitis and fever, unusual tiredness or weakness, enhancement of appetite and weight, dizziness, drowsiness, unusual exaltation, nervousness, restlessness or irritability, nightmares, rash on skin, ringing or noise in the ears, stomach upset or pains in the stomach, photoallergy (rash, skin reactions), high perspiration, thickening of excretions from bronchi, stanguria or painful urination, change of vision, mental confusion, loss of appetite, severe tachycardia.
10. Side Effects
Disorientation in time and space, delirium, impairment of short-term memory, inattention.
Dry mouth, constipation, stanguria (especially in men with increased prostate gland), blurring of vision, low perspiration in combination with high temperature of body, sexual dysfunction, impairment of state in glaucoma, attacks of apnea in sleep, snoring, urine retention.
To avoid complications during the drug therapy do not take alcoholic beverages. Use sun screen and/or protection clothes in order to protect yourself from sun-tan. Use sugar-free chewing-gum, ice cream and a substitute of saliva in case of dry mouth.
11. Pregnancy and Lactation
Only in cases of extreme necessity it is possible to use the drug in pregnancy (there are no data on efficiency and safety). During therapy breastfeeding should be stopped (the drug excretes with breast milk).
12. Driving
Until you do not know for sure how you react on this medication do not drive vehicles and do not do other activities which require alertness. In the period of therapy it is necessary to exercise caution while driving vehicles and making other potentially hazardous work, which demands high concentration and quickness of psychomotor reactions.
