5. Posology and Administration

It administered orally after meal, starting from 50-100 mg, first 2 times, then 3-4 times/daily. Parenterally the drug is introduced in the form of intravenous infusion 200 mg from 1 to 3 times /daily during 3 hours (infusion velocity is 55 drops/minute).
If the kidney function is impaired a dose should be reduced and the intervals between acceptances should be increased in relation to the speed of glomerular filtration: if the speed of glomerular filtration is 80-60 ml/min the drug is to be administered 100 mg every 12 hours, if it is 60-50 ml/min the drug is to be administered 200 and 100 mg by turns every second day, 50-40 ml/min it is administered 100 mg every 24 hours, 30-20 ml/min it is administered 200 mg 2 times a week, 20-10 ml/min it is administered 100 mg 3 times a week, less than 10 ml/min — 200 mg once a week and 100 mg every other week.

6. Counterindications

Glaucoma, adenoma of prostate gland. State of excitement, disorder of consciousness, psychoses in anamnesis. Epilepsy, thyrotoxicosis, acute and chronic liver diseases. Pregnancy (I trimester) and lactation period. Hypersensitivity to Amantadine.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Elderly patients are recommended to reduce the drug’s dose. It is not recommended to stop Amantadine therapy abruptly, as it may result in a marked aggravation of the disease. The drug may reduce attention concentration and reaction rate. It is counterindicated to drink alcoholic beverages against Amantadine therapy. Seldom – arrhythmia, tachycardia, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, sleep disorders. Very seldom – bluish color of the skin of upper and lower limbs, decrement in visual acuity.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It is counterindicated in the I-st trimester of pregnancy. During Amantadine therapy it is well to stop breastfeeding.
